CHANDIGARH, AUG 4
An organising committee, with former Haryana Director General of Police Dr Mahinder Singh Malik, IPS (Retired) as chairman, has been formed to successfully host the Mini 2011 Olympics for Tricity School from October 7 to 10.
Former international shooter Rana Gurmeet Sodhi has been nominated as patron and Vikas Dhahiya will be organising secretary.
Other members of the organising committee are: Joint secretaries: Amit Hans, Sumit Khanna. Vice-chairmen: Col AS Judge, Ravinder Talwar, Jagbir Singh.
Executive members: Maha Singh, TPS Puri, Surinder Mahajan, Parveen Sharma, Rakesh Bakshi, YP Vohra, Harish Sharma, Ravinder Singh Bawa, Harbhushan Gulati, Jugraj Singh, Vijay Jaiswal, Gursharan Singh, BL Malhotra, R Sharan, Balwinder Singh Johal, Ram, Yadwinder Singh, Vaibhav Sharma, Gajendra Singh, Rajeev Ranjan, Bhaskar Bansal and Swati Singh.
Competitions to be conducted in netball, archery, hockey, football, badminton, basketball, volleyball, kho-kho, dancesports, tennis, cricket, cycle polo, handball, skating, table tennis and table tennis.
The first meeting of the organising committee was held at The Banyan Tree School in Sector 48 here. Presiding over the meeting Dr Malik applauded the efforts of Chandigarhschools.com for initiating this grand event. The Mini 2011 Olympics for Tricity schools (Under-19) is been hosted under the patronage of Chandigarh Olympic Association.
Organising secretary Vikas Dahiya said that the Mini Olympics bears a unique logo of 'Students-Sports-Spirit'. The organising committee is getting full support from Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Adviser to the Chandigarh Administrator KK Sharma, Chandigarh Home Secretary Ram Niwas, Chandigarh Finance Secretary VK Singh, Chandigarh DPI (Schools) Sandeep Hans.
