The Banyan Tree School observed August as the Environment Month and conducted various activities realizing the importance of our environment and the need to conserve it.
Mother Nature abounds with and nourishes all forms of life on earth. From the tiny ant to the mighty man, all depend on nature’s bountiful resources for their living. Unfortunately this resource is fast depleting today due to man’s playful interference with Nature as he is trying to extract the maximum possible from nature with zero or minimum inputs. To stress on the need for a sustainable environment the students were enlightened with many environmental facts and other events, through out the month.
It started with The Tree Plantation Drive along with NSS and Zee TV. Students vowed to water the trees and help them grow. To test the level of environmental awareness a Science Quiz on the different facts about the Environment was conducted for the middle and high school. A Declamation Competition on Green Planet, Healthy Planet and Global Warming, Global Warming was also conducted for classes VI,VII and class VIII respectively.
Students of classes IX and X participated in a Paper Reading Competition on the topic ‘Our Environment Our Concern” wherein they emphasized on a holistic approach towards the environment. They also mentioned their role as students at home and at the school level to mitigate environmental degradation.
In another competition, students made beautiful Posters with slogans on the environment showing their concern for its conservation.
The school also arranged for an Excursion for the middle and high school to Kurukshetra and Kapurthala  Science City respectively. This was done to encourage independent thinking, to know more about the surroundings and to learn about the latest discoveries in science.
As a part of TERI’s  PROGRAM a TERI Tetra Pak initiative the School has motivated students to understand the concept of recycling of dry waste and garbage for a cleaner habitat.
Finally the month ended with a  Prize Distribution Ceremony and a motivating speech by  Director Mr. Talwar. Principal  Mrs. Dhar,  emphasized that the environment is each one’s concern and collective efforts are to be taken to protect it. She also asked the student community at large to the repay to nature so as to confront major environmental challenges in the near future and be ready to work for it for a better earth.
